Entrepreneurship – Freedom or Choice?

Freedom or Choice?

One of the common reasons some aspire to become an entrepreneur or independent professional is that one does not have to work for anybody else.

Freedom. But are we really free?

  • ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป We still have to work for employees.
  • ๐Ÿ’ผ We still have to work for clients.
  • ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ง We still have work with vendors.
  • ๐Ÿ’ต We still have work for investors – literally as well.
  • ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿซ We have additional overheads complying with Legal, HR, Financial aspects.
  • ๐Ÿคนโ€โ™‚๏ธ We are responsible for things we did not much care about before.
  • ๐Ÿ˜”We do not have someone who can motivate us when we are down.
  • ๐Ÿ’ธWe are responsible for meeting financial obligations of our professional family and other partners as well. Also they come first.

The freedom seems to be more perceived than it is actually.

For me the USP of entrepreneurship is not freedom but choice we get. We can choose whom we work with. Be it employees, partners, investors, vendors, clients.

When we don’t make use of this choice, I think regular day job seems to be more appealing than the perceived freedom.

The compromises made are simply not worth it if we choose the wrong people to work with.

Entrepreneurs, if you are feeling down, please do remember the power of choice you have and get going
