Finding The Perfect Socks for My Shoe

Shoe Dog by Phil Knight (Nike) is my all time favorite memoir of an entrepreneur. So when I came across “Why I Stopped wearing my socks” by Alok Kejriwal, it felt like the perfect foil.

While Shoe Dog was a Memoir ,long read and literary master piece. Socks is shorter, split into small chapters, has learnings section and easy to read language.

The book is full of anecdotes and some of the them are on,

  • πŸ€Ήβ€β™‚οΈ Hustling in multiple avenues
  • πŸ‘¨β€πŸ Expanding his socks company
  • 🀡 Creating overseas market
  • πŸ•Έ Starting an internet business before the .com bust
  • πŸ‘€ Getting traction but not generating revenue
  • πŸ“ Struggling with business plan
  • πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ Pivoting business models
  • 🎭 Working with multiple VCs – Good, Bad and Ugly
  • πŸ₯‡Making it work
  • πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Cracking the extremely tough Chinese market
  • πŸ’₯ Being fired from his own company
  • 🌱 Underestimating success
  • 😎 🚬 A Thug Life moment with BSNL
  • 🎯Learnings on sales
  • πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§ Entrepreneurial Impact on personal life

Overall it is written in a very candid and matter of fact manner. It has a racy screenplay, I could not keep the book down.

Here are some of my favourite quotes from the book.
